Your comments are interesting. However, the issue is not so much the comparison of Gurdas Maan with the likes of Shaukat Ali, but more about the pleasures that Gurdas Maan fans get from listening to his songs and music.
To us die hard Gurdas Maan, he is a legend. He writes beautiful songs and sings them with great passion.
As far as Pakistani singers etc are concerned, I know for a fact that even Gurdas Maan has publicly acknowledged that as a youngster he would listen to Shaukat Ali on the radio all the time, and Gurdas Maan himfself accepts that Shaukat Ali is one of the best Punjabi singers of all time.
However, to compare the two is not the way to analyse who is better or worse. To Gurdas Maan fans, GM is the best. To Shaukat Ali fans, SH is the best. To Punjabi music lovers, they are both great.
I think just the fact that one can talk about Gurdas Maan in the same sentence as Shaukat Ali is testament to Gurdas Maan's talents. This is largely because you certainly cannot even contemplate comparing any of the other punjabi singers of today with the likes of Shaukat Ali or any of the other greats from yesteryear.
